Background and History of Capital Quest, Inc.

This campaign launched Capital Quest in 1992 and raised funds for a new warehouse.  Special attention was paid to crafting a case statement that addressed why people should give money for a building, not just food.  This campaign raised the bulk of the funds on less than 50 gifts, including a dozen $50,000 gifts.

Our Services

Capital Quest focuses its practice on capital campaign planning and implementation. We believe that only by specializing in specific areas can we keep the knowledge and expertise level required to be true experts. Instead of being "jack of all trades", our focus is on helping community organizations raise money for buildings and equipment - and endowments as a part of a larger, capital campaign.

We divide our services into two areas - the pre-campaign planning process (what we call the Pre-Campaign Planning Study) and actual campaign management. Descriptions of both services can be found here.

History

Founded in 1992, Capital Quest has staff and offices in Seattle, Washington; Phoenix, Arizona; Tucson, Arizona; Baton Rouge, LA; and just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Capital Quest directs only capital campaigns, starting with the Pre-Campaign Planning Study. We believe no fundraising consultant or consulting firm can "specialize" in multiple disciplines (direct mail, annual giving, planned giving, etc.) and do justice to each.

Capital Quest is owned by William Krueger who has over 20 years of fundraising consulting and capital campaign experience. He has worked with one of the nation's largest fundraising consulting firms, personally directing some of the firm's most successful west coast campaigns.

Capital Quest has directed campaigns throughout the country, from California to Maine and Alaska to Louisiana. We work with community organizations such as health centers, clinics, food banks, museums, domestic violence shelters, and community hospitals. We also have extensive experience with church campaigns.

Capital Quest has also carved out a unique niche in the industry. At least half of our campaigns are for clients that have no previous annual fund experience and about 70% of our clients had never conducted a capital campaign . It requires a different approach and working-style to assist an organization that does not have extensive fundraising experience. With these types of organizations, virtually every aspect of the campaign must be built from the ground-up - including board orientation, prospect identification, leadership recruitment and case development. We understand this market.

Capital Quest limits the number of campaigns it works on at any one time. This allows our senior executives, the ones with the most experience, to be actively involved in the campaigns. This personal involvement leads to an extraordinarily high success rate for our campaigns. When clients need specialized services such as planned giving, research, direct mail, etc., Capital Quest has consultants it retains and pays for to assist in these special circumstances.

We don't strive to be the largest firm in the industry but we are constantly working toward providing our clients with the best possible capital campaign counsel with a value to match.

Philosophy

About 35% of Capital Quest's clients are churches.  This campaign was for a relatively small church in Spokane that wanted a new worship facility.  A consistent plan that called for a high percentage of participation and adherence to solid Christian stewardship principles resulted in tremendous success

At Capital Quest, we believe:

>> and subscribe to the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and Association of Philanthropic Counsel (APC) codes of ethics.

>> our principals and executives must be integrally involved in the management of each of our campaigns

>> that clients are best served by getting all of the information they need, when they need it, and that our success rests with our clients making decisions based on all the facts available.

>> fund-raising counsel should bring recent and relevant experience to the client.

>> our clients retain our services to succeed in achieving the goals they set.

>> professional fund raising is a partnership between development professionals, those committed to the organization's mission and goals, and the community served by the organization. To be successful, each constituency must commit the necessary resources to the effort.

>> campaigns succeed through the successful management of the fundraising process and the dedication and commitment of the volunteers and staff of the client organization.

>> we should provide every available resource to ensure success.
