Role of the Campaign Consultant

Fund raising counsel can bring two very important roles to the campaign.

Consultation and Strategy  Counsel brings fund raising experience, knowledge and strategies to a capital campaign. It also brings the fund raising philosophy to the campaign –directing the day-to-day activities of the campaign.

Direction and Implementation –The execution and implementation of the fund raising plan will have a great effect on the campaign’s success. Together, the organization and the consultant should make strategic decisions every day in a campaign, but the execution of these decisions will determine the ultimate success of the campaign.

Specifically, Capital Quest professionally provides the following services if retained to direct a major campaign.

  • Finalize a comprehensive campaign plan

  • Write a thorough campaign case statement

  • Plan and coordinate the selection of top campaign leadership

  • Assist in identifying and segment prospective donors

  • Write appropriate foundation proposals

  • Organize committees and direct their activities

  • Prepare speaking notes and detailed agendas for speakers

  • Instruct all volunteers on the proper methods of solicitation

  • Devise appropriate gift plans, including subscriptions, stocks, bonds, insurance, trusts and other deferred giving methods

  • Where desirable, solicit or assist in the solicitation of gift prospects

  • Coordinate publicity and public relations programs

  • Prepare all materials (brochures, cards, forms, receipts, and records)

  • Conduct orientation seminars for all important audiences.

  • Report regularly to client on the activities and progress of the program

  • Establish procedures for the redemption of gifts and pledges

  • Prepare an official report embracing the entire history of the program

  • Prepare a report and recommendations of post-campaign development.

  • Provide 60 months of pledge redemption service without fee.

  • While the consultant will provide strategic direction, it is important for the non-profit organization to understand and accept that, as an organization, it has certain management responsibilities in the campaign. Day-to-day management, such as follow-up correspondence and other time sensitive activities, are often best conducted by the organization rather than a consultant.
